Tagging Users
When typing a message in Google Chat, type @ and start typing the person’s name to call them out. As you type, their name will populate in a popup for you to click on. If the person you’re trying to tag is not in the space you are typing in, it will give you a quick option to add them to the space.
Tagging a user will send them a notification in Chat.
Threads
Threads keep conversations organized in Google Chat spaces. You can create a new thread for a new topic of conversation for easy reference.
Conversation threading can be turned off when creating a new Google Chat space.
1 | Click the + New thread button to create a new thread of conversation. | |
2 | When you have multiple threads, they appear as separate sections of conversation that anyone in the room can reply to. |
Notifications
1 | While in Google Chat, click the gear icon in the top right corner to access your settings. | |
2 | You can make the appropriate adjustments for the types of notifications that you’d like to receive. You can also adjust other settings from this screen. | |
3 | To stop receiving notifications for a specific thread, navigate to the first message of the thread and toggle the Follow/Following button. |
