What is Google Scholar?

Google Scholar is an online resource that allows users to search for scholarly literature. The advantage of using Google Scholar is that they curate scholarly resources of many different types from web resources.

How do I connect Google Scholar to library subscriptions from off campus?

To set Google Scholar up for off-campus access:

  1. Go to https://scholar.google.com/

  2. Click the hamburger menu in the top left corner

  3. Click Settings

  4. Click on Library Link in the left navigation field

  5. Search for University of Nevada, Las Vegas (NOT UNLV)  in the box that comes up.

  6. Tick the box next to both entries that come up with "university of nevada, las vegas" in their titles.

How do I create a Google Scholar profile?

  1. Visit https://scholar.google.com/

  2. Click My Profile in the upper left corner

  3. Sign in to your Google account

    1. You can use your http://unlv.edu email or a personal account

    2. If you use your UNLV email address, you will lose access to your Google Scholar profile if you leave the organization/no longer have access to your email.

  4. Fill in any missing information, such as affiliation, and add keywords
