Move local files to secure file storage
What is a local file?
A local file is a file that lives on a specific computer rather than secure file storage.
Common local file locations:
Desktop
Documents
Downloads
Files that are stored on your local computer are not saved to the network or backed up in any way.
To guarantee that your files are safe, they should be stored in a designated network file share or Google Drive, depending on your department’s preferences.
Option 1 - Save to network drives
Network drives are backed up nightly.
H:/ - Your home directory is your personal file storage and is private to you.
G:/ - UNLV Health group and department shared file storage
K:/ - SOM group and department shared file storage
Option 2 - Save to Google Drive
Google Drive is another option for file storage and is backed up constantly. Files in My Drive are private to you unless you choose to share them. Google Shared Drives can be used for departmental/group file sharing.
