KSOM VPN & Remote Desktop Access - Mac

Required for Mac to Windows Connection

Connect to the KSOM network via VPN to remotely connect to your PC on-site.

Your SOM account username and password are required for VPN and remote desktop access.

Install VPN software on your Mac

On your Mac, go to https://vpn.ksom.unlv.edu in your web browser.

You will be prompted for your SOM username and password. Enter these credentials.

→ SOM Username: firstname.lastname

Click the Download button to save the installation package.

Locate and open the downloaded file.

Open the AnyConnect installation package.

Follow the prompts of the installation wizard.

Click Agree.

Click Install.

Enter your Mac profile’s username and password to allow installation to continue.

When the installation is complete, click Close.

Install Microsoft Remote Desktop on your Mac

On your Mac, find the Microsoft Remote Desktop app in the app store.

Download the app.

Open the Microsoft Remote Desktop app.

Click Add PC.

Adjust your settings to the settings provided here.

General tab

  • PC name

Display tab

  • Use all monitors (if you have multiple monitors you would like to use)

  • Fit session to window

Devices & Audio tab

  • Printers

  • Microphone

  • Cameras

Folders tab

  • Click Add User Account…

  • Type in unlvmed\SOM Username

    • ex. unlvmed\john.doe

  • Type in your SOM password

  • Click Add

If your SOM password changes, you will need to update your password in these settings to avoid locking your account.

You will now see your PC as an option on the Microsoft Remote Desktop application.

Connect to VPN and access your PC for regular use

Connect to the KSOM Network via VPN

From your taskbar, double-click the AnyConnect Client icon.

The AnyConnect Client will open. Click Connect.

When prompted, enter your SOM username and password.

→ SOM Username: firstname.lastname

Once connected, the icon will show a lock symbol.

Connect to Virtual Desktop

Open the Microsoft Remote Desktop app.

If you have not already installed this, please disconnect from the VPN and download the Microsoft Remote Desktop app in the app store before moving on.

Choose your computer. (pp-v####.unlvmedicine.net)

When prompted, enter unlvmed\ followed by your SOM username and password.

→ SOM Username: firstname.lastname

Please ensure you are using the backslash \ and not the forward slash / as the forward slash will not work.

You will see this notice each time you connect.

Click Continue.

Disconnect

Disconnect from Remote Access

Close all of your programs.

On the remote computer, open the Windows start menu (bottom left corner) .

Click on the profile icon and choose Sign Out.

Disconnect from KSOM Network

From the taskbar notification area, click on the AnyConnect icon.

Choose Disconnect.
