Google Maps is no longer accessible with a UNLV School of Medicine Google account.

You may have recently received the following error message when attempting to access Google Maps with your UNLV Google account.

This is due to the fact that Google Maps is not covered by UNLV School of Medicine’s BAA with Google.

In order to process patient data, a company must sign a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) that lays out the ways the vendor is required to safeguard patient privacy. UNLV School of Medicine has a BAA with Google, and Google Maps is not HIPAA compliant.

Google Maps is still accessible while using an incognito window in Google Chrome.

Incognito Mode is a way to browse the web privately without Google Chrome remembering your activity.

Open an Incognito Window in Google Chrome

There are multiple ways to open an incognito window.

Method 1: Google Chrome Menu

In Google Chrome, click the three dots in the top-right corner and choose New incognito window.

Method 2: Google Chrome Taskbar

Right-click on the Chrome icon in your task bar and choose New Incognito Window.

Method 3: Keyboard Shortcut

With Google Chrome open, use the appropriate keyboard shortcut for your operating system.

  • Windows: Ctrl + Shift + n

  • Mac: ⌘ + Shift + n

Any of these three methods will successfully open an Incognito Window. You will be able to access Google Maps while using this view.
