The UNLV Office of Information Technology (OIT) has agreed to manage Apple computers for the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine as they do for other departments on campus. This arrangement is for Mac devices only and does not include iPads or other iOS devices.

Mac devices have access to the internet only via our BYOD networks, and do not have access to network drives, printer services, or any services that support patient care such as Epic or UNLV Health EHR.

All Macs within the School of Medicine will be added to UNLV’s instance of Jamf. Jamf is a device management tool that is used for a variety of functions.

  • Deploying standard software

  • Security and OS updates

  • Information collection, such as make/model, serial number, building/department/room, IP address, and more

  • Locking down stolen or missing devices

    • Locking a device includes a message that will display with UNLV contact information in case a missing device has been found.

Jamf also provides the ability to erase Mac drives if they are lost or stolen in order to protect sensitive data.

A police report or written permission from the Dean/Chair/Director is required to execute this command.

How to get help
