KSOM VPN - Connect/Disconnect

The KSOM VPN allows you to connect to the KSOM network while you are off-site.

The KSOM VPN is used by both School of Medicine and UNLV Health employees.

Use of VPN is only needed when you are off-site & not connected to the SOM/UNLVMed networks.

Attempting to connect to VPN while on-site can cause significant errors and disruptions.

You must install the client before attempting these instructions.


Connecting

Step 1 - Connect to KSOM VPN Network

From the taskbar, click the AnyConnect Client icon.

  • Click ^ to expand the taskbar to see all icons if necessary.

The AnyConnect client will open. Ensure the server name is showing, vpn.ksom.unlv.edu, and choose Connect.

When prompted, enter your SOM credentials:

  • Username: firstname.lastname

Once connected, the AnyConnect icon will show a lock.

Step 2 - Connect to the Remote Desktop (if applicable)

  • This is not necessary if you are using your work-provided laptop.

Double-click the Remote Desktop icon created during setup.

If prompted, enter your SOM username and password.

Disconnecting

Step 1 - Disconnect from Remote Desktop (if applicable)

  • This is not necessary if you are using your work-provided laptop.

Hover your mouse at the top of the screen on the remote computer and a blue bar will appear.

Click the X to disconnect.

On the remote computer, open the Windows Start Menu. Click on the Profile Picture and choose Sign Out.

Step 2 - Disconnect from KSOM Network

In the taskbar, right-click on the AnyConnect Client icon.

Choose Disconnect.
