Mobile app users will be notified when recordings start or stop, but cannot control any recordings from the mobile app.

Who can record a meeting?

Only Hosts and Co-hosts can record a meeting in Google Meet.

If somebody other than the meeting host is responsible for recording, the host must give them co-host privileges.

If you are not a host or co-host, you will not have the recording option.

The host of the meeting will need to open the list of attendees, hover over your name, click the three vertical dots, and choose Add as co-host.

Once you have the co-host privilege, the recording option will become available.

Start and Stop a Recording

In the meeting, click the More icon (the three dots) and then click Record meeting.

It will ask you to confirm before the recording begins.

Wait for the recording to start. Other participants are notified when the recording starts or stops.

Click More and then click Stop recording when you are finished.

The recording will also automatically stop when everyone leaves the meeting.

Click Stop recording to verify.

The recording file will be generated and saved to the meeting organizer’s My Drive > Meet Recordings folder. It will create the folder if it does not already exist.

An email with the recording link is also sent to the meeting organizer and the person who started the recording.

Share a Recording

Note

Meet recordings will not automatically appear as soon as your meeting is complete.

Depending on the size of the file (length of the recording), it may take several minutes or longer for the video to fully process and be accessible.

In Google Drive

  1. Recordings are automatically saved to the meeting organizer’s My Drive > Meet Recordings folder.

  2. To share a recording, select the video file and click Share. You can also copy/paste the link into an email.

  3. In Google Drive, double-click the recording to play it. “Still Processing” appears until the file is ready for viewing.

From an Email Link
An email with the recording link is sent to the meeting organizer and the person who started the recording.

  1. In the email, click the link and wait for the recording to open.

  2. To share the recording, click More and then Share. Enter the email addresses and click Done. (You can also copy and share the link once you’ve set the appropriate permissions..)
